Lots of activities for children at various places in the valley, including face painting, cake decoration, cycle skills course, bouncy castle and rides.
Ouseburn Festival Parade – noon
Festival Parade. Starts at noon at the Cycle Hub. Join in the parade with fancy dress, banners and music as it winds through the Ouseburn Valley to the Farm. Some of the displays have been made by pupils from local schools. All welcome. Meet at the Cycle Hub from 11am. The Cycle Hub Café will be open from 11am.
The Cycle Hub 10am to 2pm
It’s Bike Month at the Cycle Hub. There will be a Bike Jumble Stall, and a cycle skills course for children.
There will also be a bouncy castle, fairground rides and treats in the Ouseburn Valley all afternoon.
The Cluny’s Rubber Duck Race – 2pm
Starts at 2pm from Crawford’s Bridge (behind Ouseburn Farm) and ends at the slip way near the Cluny. Entries are £2 in advance for your duck from The Cluny with a Golden Duck trophy for the winner and prizes for 1st ten places. Limited number of entries, all proceeds to Ouseburn Farm.
Tyne Bank Brewery Open day 12noon to 4pm
Tours and tastings every hour. Free! Under 18s must by accompanied by an adult.
Tyne Bank Brewery 2pm to 4pm
Professor Brainstorm and the Magic of Icecream. The Professor will demonstrate some fun experiments in his laboratory, including ice cream.
Live Music Stage from 12.30pm
The Live Music Stage will be in front of Ouseburn Farm. Acts to be announced on the day.
The Grazer fine food market – 11am to 5pm
The Ouseburn Festival Feast, including 30 stalls of food and drinks, local produce, chefs cooking, music and picnic spots, will take place along Ouse Street. Ouse Street Arts Club will be open for coffee and drinks. Come down and shop from the likes of the amazing Feathers Inn, Carruthers and Kent wines, the Northumberland Sausage Company, and the Miller’s Daughters cakes. There will be fresh fruit and vegetables, breads, pastries, macaroons, chocolates, cookware, pickles, pizza and more!
Stepney Bank Stables
Come and meet a pony at the ‘pony parlour’ in the Stables car park. You can also watch the riding lessons in the indoor arena but please be quiet!
Victoria Tunnel taster tours
Visit Newcastle’s underground secrets. Free guided short taster tours through the underground Victoria Tunnel which linked Ouseburn under the city centre to Leazes Pit at Spital Tongues. Tours start at the tunnel entrance (Ouse Street) on the hour from 1pm to 4pm. Pre-book at Ouseburn Trust Office in Arch 6 at the foot of Stepney Bank. The Trust Offices will have heritage information and resources available to browse.
Biscuit Factory 11am to 5pm
The summer exhibitions sets the backdrop for a series of contemporary jewellery and textile crafting sessions led by our studio artists, suitable for children and adults. Meet the artists at the Biscuit Factory Open Studios event. Crafting session times and programme details available on the Biscuit Factory website.
36 Lime Street 12noon to 6pm
The Hang Gang presents RIP. The Hang Gang is a collective of artists including Matthew Hearn, Sebastian Trend and Thomas Whittle. Interested in ideas of the poster and the printed/reproduced image, RIP presents a series of new works which draw together layers and elements of stolen, borrowed and plundered imagery.
Holy Biscuit 11am to 4pm
Two exhibitions in the gallery: From Carpet to Heaven by Julia Tryon and Colour Journeys by Susan Walton and Marion Balback.
Seven Stories 10am to 4pm
Rumbling Robots Weekend. Robots at the ready this weekend as we celebrate all everything we love about No Bot, the Bot with no bottom! Also featuring Cressida Cowell’s Deadly Dragons and a world of Enid Blyton adventure. Find out more on the Seven Stories website. Free admission all day Sunday.
Ouseburn Boat Club mini cruises
On the hour from 1pm to 4pm. Free!
Toffee Factory 12 noon to 4pm
Come and meet the animals, or learn about our vegetables and bees. Open all day – free.
A 45 minute guided walk. Information from Ouseburn Trust in Arch 6 on Stepney Bank which is also the start of the walk. Free.
igloo Airstream cruiser 9am to 5pm
Visit the Igloo Airstream cruiser next to the Cycle Hub on the Quayside. Join the discussion about future developments in the Lower Ouseburn Valley with Igloo, the festival sponsors.
Cumberland Arms – Cumberland Reel – 3pm to 10pm
A day of live music on the outdoor stage from 3pm to 10pm – Showcasing some of the best young talent that Newcastle has to offer. Come down between 3.00pm and 10.00pm to hear folk, oldtime, blues, sumptuous harmonies and sordid rhythms, all outside on the Beer Terrace.
