Saturday 5th July

The Ouseburn Festival starts on Saturday 5th July with events all around the valley, including lots of family activities. One of the biggest highlights of Saturday is NARC. Fest, the multi-venue extravaganza of music and the Creased Comedy Festival.

Tour De France Grand Depart Weekend

10am to 6pm The Cycle Hub

It’s the biggest weekend in the cycling calendar and they’ll have everything live from the Grand Depart in Yorkshire on a big screen at the Hub. They’ll have some tour themed food and drinks and everything will be feeling just a little bit French!

Ragwort, Spurge and Vetch – exhibition of prints by Louise Bradley

10am to 5pm at the Toffee Factory

The screen prints by Louise Bradley exhibited at the Toffee Factory are a visual response to the wild plants growing in the Ouseburn Valley and part of the International Print Biennale 2014. This exhibition is also open on 3rd and 4th July as well as during the Festival.

Northern Print at Hoults Yard

10am to 4pm at Hoults Yard

Hoults Yard was built for the renowned Tyneside pottery Malings with many of the original features still evident today, as well as a growing collection of street art. 22 studio users from Northern Print have responded to this unique setting to make and share new work in print.

Also open on 6th July 2014. Unfortunately no disabled access due to steps.


10am to 6pm at the Biscuit Factory

The Biscuit Factory hosts an exhibition of works by a group of printmakers who have been shortlisted for their outstanding work as part of the annual Printfest fair. Printfest was set up in 2001 and is an annual art fair which takes place in Cumbria bringing together the best of the UK’s printmakers under one roof.

Family fun at the Farm

10am to 6pm Ouseburn Farm

There are fun activities and events for all throughout the day, including face painting, seed planting workshops, and petting the smaller animals. There’ll also be a buskers’ alley around and in the farm, and an art exhibition in the café.

St Ann’s Church Open Day

10am till 4pm at St Ann’s Church

Come and visit us, and be enthralled by the tranquillity and beauty of this place of worship. An 18th Century Grade I Listed Heritage Building off City Road, opposite the Baltic Gallery, serving the Communities of Battlefield, The Ouseburn Valley and The Quayside.

Author Event – Dinosaur ROAR with Paul Stickland

10am to 4pm at Seven Stories (centre is open till 5pm)

Drop in all day

Dinosaurs weak, dinosaurs strong, dinosaurs tall and very, very long are all invited to thunder down to Seven Stories and meet author and illustrator Paul Stickland and celebrate 20 years of Dinosaur Roar!

Paul will be taking up residency in our Creation Station for 2 days to create a HUGE art installation inspired by his best-selling book. Add your mark to the dino-display, ask Paul questions and create your own ferocious 3.D T.Rex mask!

Free event, no booking required. Admission fee to centre applies on Saturday.

Children’s Sticker Art workshops

11am to 3pm between The Ship and Ouseburn Farm

A sticker-ful art experience in the sun – for everyone who likes to make hats, create new dinosaurs, and dress up. And for those who don’t think they do! Free drop-in event. Costumes can be worn in the Sunday Parade.

Family fun

11am to 3pm at the Holy Biscuit

Family fun event with bouncy castle and face painting in the Holy Biscuit back garden on the Saturday.

Frontier – art exhibition

11am to 4pm at 36 Lime Street Gallery

Frontier: a print exchange portfolio between fourteen European printers, each of whom studied at the renowned Tamarin Institute, New Mexico, USA. Frontier is part of the International Print Biennale 2014.

Painting the Ouseburn

Registration from 11am to 1pm at the Cumberland Arms

Join an outdoor painting weekend presented by En Plein Air. Bring your own materials and find somewhere in Ouseburn to paint. Register at The Cumberland Arms from 11am – 1pm Saturday (also can join in on Sunday). Bring your painting before 3pm on Sunday 6th to the Cumberland Arms. Public exhibition of all entries between 4pm and 6pm. £5 adults, £10 families, £3 concessions.

Talk to the Animals musical entertainment

12 noon at Ouseburn Farm

Come along and learn a little bit more about the animals.

International Print Biennale 2014 Print Awards exhibition

12pm to 4pm at Northern Print

The 2014 Print Awards brings together the best in contemporary printmaking from around the world with 37 shortlisted artists selected from 740 from across 42 countries. Come and see a diverse selection of works at Northern Print, the organizers of International Print Biennale, the biggest festival of printmaking in the UK.

The exhibition is shared between Northern Print and Hatton Gallery with 7 of the shortlisted artists showing at Northern Print. The exhibition continues till 9th August. Free entry.

Creased Comedy Festival at Narc. Fest

Victoria Tunnel taster tours

1pm to 4pm – collect free tickets from Arch 6 and take to the Tunnel entrance

Free guided taster tours through the Victoria Tunnel will run from 1pm to 4pm on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th July. Visitors can collect tickets from Ouseburn Trust at Arch 6 during the festival for specific times and take them along to the tunnel where the Ouseburn  guides will give a brief tour (approximately 40 minutes each tour).

Pony rides

1.30pm to 4.30 pm Stepney Bank Stables

Pony rides in the Outdoor Arena from 1pm to 4.30 pm. Pony rides cost £2. There will also be a chance to meet the ponies and watch riding lessons in the indoor arena and visit our stalls and face painter in the stables’ car park! Special offers on riding lesson bookings available on the day.
